This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore twelve topics, from different verses in the books of John and Acts of the Apostles. They are: Walking in the Light, Obedience, Devotion, Love, Bearing Fruit, The Work Given to You, The spirit of control, Casting the net, Sharing, Appointment, Go; and Reasons for Giving.
Excerpts:
Walking in the light
“Worry is counterfeit hope; fear is counterfeit faith while corruption is counterfeit love, generated not from the love of the father but from the love of the world. Fear is “faith” in what the devil can do, but when we have faith in God, we can please him, walk with him, walking in the light. Worry is counterfeit hope, but putting your hope in God, letting his words colour your expectation is all that matters.”
Obedience
“So we should expect to receive help with regards to recognising, connecting with and doing the will of God in everything.”
Devotion
“She was not content to show love to Jesus in her room, but she made it public. Everyone in the room witnessed her devotion, and she received commendation for what she gave to Jesus, the risk she took, the dirt she cleansed off Jesus to take on herself, she did not care how she looked in order to make Jesus look good.”
Love
“The empowerment comes by the Holy Spirit coming into us to pour the love of God into us, so that it becomes our default to obey, breaking into light, and we sense the grieving of the Holy Spirit in us when we are merely thinking of disobeying (Ephesians 4:30).”
Bearing fruit
“From John 15:1-10, the specific fruit you should bear are the results of your prayer life (vs. 7) and of your life of obedience (vs. 10). Both are hinged on the word of God (in you [for praying] and acted by you [in obedience]) and are the bases of spiritual productivity that you are called into in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:10).”
The work given to you
“Paul also had a razor-sharp view of the will of God for him; of the work God has given him, saying at the close of his time on the earth like Jesus, “I have finished my course (2Timothy 4:7).” The kingdom of God is not about hit-and-miss, trial and error, but clarity of the will of God by the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17) in doing the work God gives you; like Jesus and Paul.”
The spirit of control
“The Pharisees with their spirit of control was the epitome of the order of things into the Old Testament, have no genuine perception. They killed the Word (Jesus) the scriptures they were reading pointed them to. As mentioned before, Jesus said they are blind leaders of the blind and both will end in the pit. And it is written, there is one who seeks to control others, but in the end he hurts himself (Ecclesiastes 8:9).”
Casting the net
“As a fisher of men, there are the divine tools given by God, means of getting into the water, knowledge and experience, there is the lake in which we are to fish, there are people we are to fish with, and there is the divine instruction for great effectiveness, and there is what to do with the fishes after they are caught.”
Sharing
“Paul said that as we have received different gifts, we should minister the same (Romans 12:3-7). Peter said that those who speak should do so as the oracle of God while those who serve, should do so with the ability that God gives (1Peter 4:10-11).”
