This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Prayer are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the books of Lamentation, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Jonah and Micah. They are: The prayer mandate; Restore; What prayer entails; Calling upon God; Praying for the manifestation of the Word and the Spirit; Prayer before change; and Watch and wait.

The prayer mandate
“When Peter was in prison and was scheduled to be killed, just as James was killed, the church used its prayer power and an angel was sent and Peter was supernaturally delivered from that quagmire (Acts 12:1-18).”
Restore
“Jesus met a man who was possessed of the devil and he was a raving lunatic, living in the grave. When he met Jesus and he cast out the devils in him, he was restored to his right mind in an instant (Mark 5:1-20). Do you need to be restored to your right mind?
“Whatever medical condition that causes you to not be in your right mind is a job for Jesus the restorer who is the same today, yesterday and forever more (Hebrews 13:8).”
What prayer entails
“If prayer is not about the will of God as revealed in his word then it is not prayer. If it is not about cooperation with God for his will for be done in us, and around us then it is not true prayer. It is not about trying to arm-twist God, it is cooperation with God. It is bringing God in connection with a situation on the earth, to bring his power to bare on it. Prayer is to get done what we cannot do by ourselves. We should therefore approach prayer with the attitude of cooperation with God.”
Calling upon God
“The spirit of Elijah is the spirit of power (he brought fire from heaven to turn the attention of a nation towards God) (James 5:16-18) while the spirit of Moses is the spirit of purpose (or counsel [direction]; he led a nation from Egypt towards the promise land). Hence when we call on God, we should expect greater display of his power and purpose.”
Praying for the manifestation of the Word and the Spirit
“Jesus himself warned against throwing pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6). God values his word and the manifestation of his Spirit, and to experience them and have them manifest in the church, you must show the appropriate valuation too by going all out or as Joel recommended, all-night in seeking for them.”
Prayer before change
“Don’t think grace is a weak word. It is divinity in humanity. It is the limitless in the limited. It is the difference between Moses and Jesus.”
Watch and wait
“He asked from God before taking steps to battle his enemy (2Samuel 5:17-25). He did not presume to know what to do. He asked. Jesus said ask and you shall be given (Matthew 7:7). To ask means you rely on him to do it. Solomon wrote: trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path (Proverbs 3:4-7).”
