This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of The Power of God are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore six topics, from different verses in the books of Hosea, Jonah and Nahum. They are: No God but me; Salvation is from the Lord; Great in power; The Lord is good; The Lord will restore I&II.
Excerpts:
No God but me
“But the bible says: the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1). Death culminates in eternal separation from God while faith is recognition of the power of God now to set us free from death in all ramifications. Faith is what overcomes death in all its expressions (1John 5:4). With faith, the authority given to man at the beginning is restored, and we can truly have dominion here.”
Salvation is from the Lord
“The power in the salvation message: Salvation belongs to the Lord not only because he sent it to a group of people through men (Jonah and Jesus) who were buried for three days; also not only because his compassion was overflowing without limit; the third reason is the ability of God’s message to cause repentance in people, making the way to God, to salvation open through believing the message and the messenger. The Nineveans believed Jonah’s message and where saved as they responded to it; also through the message of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord (Romans 10:9-10) people all over the world can be saved. God is not just compassionate, someone who merely wishes you well, hoping for the best. He has the power to effect the salvation inside of you, if only you would believe.  God effects salvation (Ephesians 1:19, 2:1) by causing his power to course through you to take you from the pit of damnation to experience resurrection also be a source of salvation to others like both Jonah was and Jesus is.”
Great in power
“Yet again a day of judgement is coming, and those that will be untouched will be those who are of the household of God through Jesus Christ. Jesus said as it was in the days of Noah, so would it be in the day of the son of man (Luke 17:26), the time Jesus comes to reveal God’s great power in judgement. Now God’s great power is at work in mercy.”
The Lord is good
“Light means possibilities in God. Jesus is the divine light. He says that he is the light of the world (John 9:5), the presentation of divine possibilities for humanity.”
The Lord will restore (I)
“He wrote to the Corinthian church, praying that the grace of Jesus be with them (2Corinthians 13:14); Peter wrote that the sign of maturity is to grow in grace. The bible says that it is good that the heart (the core of who you are) be established by grace, not with food which has not profited those who are occupied with it (Hebrews 13:9). To the level that you have grace pumped into you it is the level that you are changed into the image of Christ. One phrase that described the growing years of Jesus was that he was packed full of grace (Luke 2:40). And John wrote that of his (Christ) fullness, we have received grace for grace (John 1:16).
The Lord will restore (II)
“Understand where you are in the restoration continuum, and take the appropriate step. Not yet born again? Give your life to Christ to experience the restoration of the body. Born again? Use all ties you have to emphasis the transformation of your soul through the word of God. You can control those two, but you cannot control the last one.”
