This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Life in the Spirit are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore eight topics, from different verses in the books of Genesis. They are: On obedience; The floodgates of heaven; The story of a dove; Be full of the Spirit until you are drunk; Deception of the physical eyes; Have you found water?; ‘I will be with you’; and Revelation.
Excerpts:
On obedience
“Because of the level of obedience that Jesus operated in, he was able to tell the disciples that if they have seen him they have seen the father (John 14:9). The one you obey have established control over you. That we why are told not to obey the flesh, allowing its works to be established in our life, unto death, but rather we should obey the Holy Spirit, leading to life (Galatians 5:16, 6:8).”
The floodgates of heaven
“But you say what about having drains, which should prevent flood from developing from a rain. That’s right. The drain in a spiritual sense when it comes to positive flood can be through un-forgiveness, sinful acts, heretic teaching, pride, distraction (affecting faithfulness), worry, all of which can possibly grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30-32).”
The story of a dove
“What is the final part of this story? Noah came from the ark signifying God coming from heaven to make his habitation with man; when the water of sin would have receded well on the earth (the earth restored). The New Jerusalem will come down from heaven and God will have his above with man forever and ever (Revelation 21:1-5).”
Be full of the Spirit until you are drunk
“Paul said that the kingdom of God is not in meat and drink but in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). Joy is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). And joy is expressed in praise which is the garment that God said will replace the spirit of heaviness in our lives (Isaiah 61:1-3).”
Deception of the physical eyes
“A lot is directly linked to sensitivity to the Holy Spirit; spending time to be close to God in the place of prayer cannot be a waste. Before Jesus chose his twelve disciples he was in an all night of prayer (Luke 6:12-16). Some, we read of Jesus coming directly to, and he asking them to follow him, and they found that call irresistible but of others we never heard of such direct call but we see him call them in the general call of the twelve.”
Have you found water?
“God’s work is established in peace. There is peace in heaven, and we have been taught by Jesus that we should pray that God’s kingdom come on the earth (Matthew 6:9-10).Again, I ask: have you found the well water (eternal life), the rivers of living water (empowerment) and the still waters (peace)?”
‘I will be with you’
“The Spirit of the Lord makes personal, one-on-one relationship with the person of God possible. And it is in that context that all other dimensions of the Spirit find full expression.”
Revelation
“Isaiah came into a greater understanding of himself when in the year that king Uzziah died, he saw the Lord and had the revelation of God’s holiness, and he declared that he is a man of unclean lips, living in the midst of those with unclean lips. By revelation, he had the understating of the Lord, of himself and his environment (Isaiah 6:1-10).”
