This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Jesus are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore six topics, from different verses in the books of Hosea, Micah and Zechariah. They are: Jesus in the Old Testament: Some prophecies He fulfilled; Our peace; Joined to the Lord; A man called the Branch; The King of salvation; and Covenant of Favour.
Excerpts:
Jesus in the Old Testament: Some prophecies He fulfilled
“And the water flowing from the temple is also flowing from Jesus (the ultimate temple) with healing. The book of Malachi introduces Jesus as the sun of righteousness, rising with healing in his wings (Malachi 4:1-3). These are reflective of the force of healing that will come from Jesus that fills the New Testament and is continuing even now, since Jesus is alive.”
Our peace
“A disciple is the term used to describe the highest level of devotion to someone. There is nothing half-hearted about being a disciple. It is about obedience, followership, and commitment in the absolute sense. It is service, it is attachment. It is change into becoming like the master (Prince of peace). The goal is to be like the master and the disciple goes about it with absolute focus.”
Joined to the Lord
“It is by abiding in Jesus having his word dwelling in us that we bear much fruit, and are empowered to do all and be all for God. Nothing can be achieved in our own strength. The bible says that it is not by power nor might but by the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).”
A man called the Branch
“Jesus called himself the ladder (John 1:51), the one who made your being called the house of God possible. He is the bridge between heaven and earth.  It is on the ladder of his righteousness that heaven meets earth in you, where you can ascend to heaven and descend to impact the earth with heavenly goods. It is on the ladder of his truth that the pathway to God is made clear, it is on the ladder of his grace that we can do the impossible. Truly this Branch is building the temple of the LORD!”
The King of salvation
“They put all manner of sentiment into that reasoning, not knowing that God has taken care of all issues between him and man, through the sacrifice of his son on the cross. You can’t be more sentimental than God who became man in Christ so that he can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities to become an adequate mediator between God and man (Hebrews 4:15-16).”
Covenant of Favour
“Jesus sent us forth to make disciples, to bring others into the same covenant we have come into through faith, because faith in Jesus connects us with the new covenant, the covenant of endless favour.”
