This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Holiness are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the books of Numbers and Deuteronomy. They are: The defilement of sin; Cleansing; Repentance; Purify yourself; What a leader should not do; Do not be dishonest; and Careful to do all God’s commandments.
Excerpts:
The defilement of sin
“Jesus said that the one, who knows the will of the master and does not do it, will be beaten with many stripes (in reprimand) (Luke 12:45-48). For that servant, it’s the will that is defiled because it does not line up with the will of God. Another verse in the bible says: To him who knows what is good and doesn’t do it, it is sin (James 4:17).”
Cleansing
“When we are purified in our heart (the place of motivation), we can offer acceptable sacrifices to God. The double-minded are called to purify their hearts (James 4:8).”
Repentance
“Jesus said: learn from me and you will find rest for your soul (Matthew 11:29). Learning is a thing of the mind. We are changed into the image of the one we are learning from. And Paul said, we should learned Christ. That is the end point of repentance.”
Purify yourself
“They try to shed the wrong habits, which is all about the wrong attraction, but to no avail. What needs to be addressed is the mind. It needs to be renewed (Roman 12:1-4). There is a force exerting its effect on the mind causing it to desire the wrong thing, there is need for a change in the spirit of that mind. As Paul said we need to be renewed in the spirit of our mind to do the right thing (Ephesians 4:17-23).”
What a leader should not do
“Though David followed the Lord whole-heartedly and through thick and thin, his son, Solomon, lacked that kind of consistency (1Kings 11:1-14). After a while, he turned away into idol worship having married women from various nations in direct contradiction to the will of God. God did not allow his kingdom to continue intact after his death. The kingdom was divided in the time of his son Rehoboam as punishment for not following God wholeheartedly in obedience to his commandments.”
Do not be dishonest
“Joseph, while he was in the house of Potiphar was trusted with everything; Potiphar gave no thought on his affairs. He gained his absolute trust. He proved himself trustworthy (Genesis 39:1-6). What about you?”
Careful to do all God’s commandments
“We need to develop the culture of believing the word of God, doing the will of God, and following God’s Spirit as He leads us. The bible says that as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God (Romans 8:14). It is the sons of God that are trusted with the treasures of His knowledge. It is time to embrace the inner voice of the Holy Spirit as the truth which is focused on your maximum benefit.”
