This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of The Power of God are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seventeen topics, from different verses in the book of Genesis. They are: The help of the Lord; 3 expressions of blessing; The Lord fights for his people; Restoration of what is stolen; God most high; The Lord who sees; The Lord appeared; God: the name changer; Is there anything too difficult for the Lord?; The two covenants; The everlasting God; The Lord will provide; Blessing in every way; God’s help; Change of name; Help from God; The Lord’s blessing; and The favour of God.
Excerpts:
The help of the Lord
“When Jesus Christ was giving a valedictory speech for his disciples before he departed from the earth, he said that he was going to send them another helper (John 16:7), which will be with them, the Holy Spirit, who will be in them always; he said later that they shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon them (Acts 1:8).”
3 expressions of blessing
“One dimension of blessing is the making of God. Another is the blessing of the servant attitude in us. Jesus had a great name because he reduced himself to the level of servant. He said that he did not come to the world to be served but to serve, giving his life for many. Then the highest level of being blessed is to be a blessing. That is where the earlier two points leads to: for you to be a blessing.
“The blessing of being made by God (key is submission to God) + the blessing of a servant attitude (key is service to others) = being a blessing (the ultimate blessing).”
The Lord fights for his people
“And God has not become more tolerant of sin now than he was then. He still expects our righteousness to be more than that of the Pharisee (Matthew 5:20). And that is a direct reference to internal holiness, which had to do with the thoughts and what we do when no one is looking, and sharing in the heart of God who prioritises kindness and mercy (Matthew 23;23), in his dealings with men. But for the Pharisees it is all about appearance, about tradition (Mark 7:1-23), about allegiance to a system of religion, rather than a committed to the person of God, and to Christ his Son (John 8:42).”
Restoration of what is stolen
“We rejoiced that though gentiles, the blessings of Abraham are upon us (Galatians 3:13-14), we have full access to God through Jesus and through him we experience God-with-us (Isaiah 7:13-14) and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God (Colossians 1:27, Romans 5:1-5).”
God most high
“Obedience brought him to the reality of the supernatural, it opened to him possibilities that only the Most High can bring. And Jesus said that I opened a door no one can shut and shut doors no one can opened, being the one with the key of David (Revelation 3:7).”
The Lord who sees
“All these dimensions of the Lord-who-sees are to be exhibited by us through the manifestation of the gifts of the spirit. Break the limit of your mind, of what you think is possible with you, the “Lord who sees” who is in you wants to be expressed.”
The Lord appeared
“We read that in the presence of God there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11), which is where we experience fullness. It is where Jesus takes us to, why he appeared to us.
“Now God appeared to us in Jesus so that we will appear before God wearing his righteousness (2Corinthians 2:21).”
