This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Spiritual Growth are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore three topics, from different verses in the books of Jeremiah and Ezekiel. They are: Rest for the soul; Who is your prophet, priest and elder?; A vision from a prophet; and Change.
Excerpts:
Rest for the soul
“That is the divine perspective, the perspective of the one who sees the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). You should not approach the future with agitation but with the clear sense of direction and confidence in God, that he who began a good work in you, is able to complete it (Philippians 1:6), helping you to stand perfect and complete in his will (Colossians 4:12).”
Who is your prophet, priest and elder?
“There is no counsel like the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Jesus advocates dependence on the Holy Spirit, who he says will teach us all truth (John 16:13-15), and manifest his words to us. Jesus is the wisdom of God and God is called the ancient of days (Daniel 7:9). So why not go to him, to God, for all the counsel you need? You know he has your best interest at heart and is truly ancient.”
A vision from a prophet
“Take the lid of what you think is possible for you in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, so that your faith-for-guidance muscle can be exercised on a daily basis to obey his promptings.”
Change
“Oneness is marked by the prevalence of peace. The first major change that we have when we come to God is peace. Paul said we have peace with God because of Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). The challenge is now to have peace within ourselves, and that comes as we receive grace for a daily work, realising that it is not by power nor might but by the Holy Spirit, who works the fruit of love in us (Galatians 5:22-24), one of which is peace. Love is the resolution of all inner conflicts, it is the blossoming of the life of God, the manifestation of the fullness of God, the embracing of the purpose of God; it is the freedom to be all we can be in God in an upward progression of change.”
