This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Life in the Spirit are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore five topics, from different verses in the books of 2Kings, 1Chronicles, and Job. They are: How to gain and retain the anointing; Fire from heaven; Any difference between the spirit and the heart?; A spirit in man; and Teach me what I do not see.
Excerpts:
How to gain and retain the anointing
“It is not about getting but becoming, so much so that the anointing becomes your identity not just a possession that you can lose. So when the focus is on Jesus we will not have the fear of losing the anointing, since we did not get it by effort, but by being in Christ. We cannot lose it, since Christ the anointed one is always with us.”
Fire from heaven
“When Abraham sent his servant to get a wife for his son Isaac among his family, the servant prayed that God should guide him to make the right choice (Genesis 24). He regarded God as having a choice, for Isaac and wanted to be in on it. And his mission was successful because he was divinely guided, and soon he was back to Abraham with a wife for his Son. He was new in that place, but God went before him and everything was well.”
Any difference between the spirit and the heart?
“The reason the focus is on the mind and not the will or the emotion, two other components of the soul is that, while the emotion can be moved and the will can be forced, the mind holds the key to long-lasting change and transformation.”
A spirit in man
“That is the context in which we understand what Paul said that we groan in ourselves (Romans 8:18-25), as we wait for our body to be equally to the level of our renewed spirit have experienced, and the soul is experiencing its own transformation of the personality in this life time, equally to the level of the spirit. The body will also be transformed at the end of time (1Corinthians 15:42-49).
“The spirit within defines our reality as Christians. It is that heavenly quality about us, which makes us live an elevated existence even in this world.”
Teach me what I do not see
“When he was near the crucifixion on the cross, he said if the disciples really understood they will rejoice that he was going, if they saw beyond the tip of their noses in a spiritual sense. But they could not. They needed help. The Holy Spirit is the helper (John 14:26, 15:26), to teach us what we do not see. Paul wrote that we have been given the Holy Spirit for us to know what God knows, see what he sees (1Corinthians 2).”
