This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of the Ministry of the Word are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore six topics, from different verses in the book of Proverbs. They are: Teaching is light; Tablet of the heart; Concealing knowledge; and Purpose and power in God’s word.
Excerpts:
Teaching is light
“There is a freshness of instruction that God wants us to walk in, that we are supposed to look up to God for, being the father (source) of lights without is no darkness at all time (James 1:17, 1John 1:5).”
Tablet of the heart
“Now, this is related to what the writer of the book of Hebrews mentioned as the elementary principles of Christ; which regards repenting from death works etc (Hebrews 5:11-6:3). Now the writer had a problem with his audience in their ability to understand higher truths after many years as Christians. He said that when they should be teachers, they still needed basic stuffs, the ABCs. They could not understand things in greater depth. For that purpose Paul prayed that we should have the spirit of understanding (Ephesians 1:15-19).”
Concealing knowledge
“In the same way, a lot of times, those who give you certain advice do so for their own selfish reasons. They think of how what you do, the choices you make, will impact on them. They want to use their closeness with you to manipulate you, to their own end. Jesus told Peter you are after the things of men not the things of God. He wanted to have what he feels swallow up the purpose of God for Jesus. What he does not know was more than what he does. So with all of us. Hence the call to live by faith (Hebrews 10:38).”
Purpose and power in God’s word
“He read from the same Isaiah, saying: the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to do many things. He derived his purpose from the word of God, and that guided his daily action. He was careful not to derail, telling the disciples: I must do the work of him who sent me because the night comes when no man can work (John 9:1-5).
