This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Spiritual Identity are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore five topics, from different verses in the books of 1Samuel and 2Samuel. They are: The glory; Who is David?; A new look at faith; The church’s three areas of strength; and The messenger and his message.
Excerpts:
The glory
“Paul said: I thank God who counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry (1Timothy 1:12), just as with his righteousness, the faithfulness of Jesus was accounted to him. That is why God can trust us to carry his glory as mortals.
“Jesus said that he has given us the glory God gave him. We now bear the glory of God because of Jesus Christ (John 17:22).”
Who is David?
“Abigail helped David refocus on his identity with God, and not on the words of a man whose name translates to Folly (vs 25). Don’t allow the words of men who do not have the full divine information about you to unnecessarily rattle you. They don’t have the last say. God does. Who you are is not subject to any man’s subjective conclusion. When anyone says whatever they want to say, remind yourself of the way God sees you: as his child. There is nothing greater than that.”
A new look at faith
“Just as faith without works is dead (James 2:17), faith is polluted with doubt and without the Holy Spirit there can be no real faith, as the story of Saul shows us.”
The church’s three areas of strength
“Jesus had told them: You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, Judea and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). I am sure when they heard that, they wondered: how can this be. The Holy Spirit made it possible. When the Holy Spirit came, he gave them the accurate understanding of their purpose and energised them to fulfil it. We are a people intimate with God and have received his help by the Holy Spirit, as he guides us into all truth (John 16:13). No other group of people can claim such intimacy with God and relevance to his plans and purposes on the earth, which we carry out in cooperation with the Holy Spirit.”
The messenger and his message
“There is need for the messenger to be in preparation to be able to deliver the message. You can’t bear all messages, and there is time for everything; and the intention of God is that the messenger and the message will be one.”
