This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Holiness are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore four topics, from different verses in the book of Proverbs. They are: Deliverance from strange woman; Avoid lying; Words of healing; ‘Take away the dross from the silver’.
Excerpts:
Deliverance from strange woman
“We need to have agreement that what is done in private must match what is said in public. That is the challenge of the first group (pro-legalism), while the other (the anti-legalism) need to understand that wisdom is profitable to direct (Ecclesiastes 10:10), practically sensible, that choices have consequences, and that being a Christian does not immune us from repercussions (Galatians 6:8).”
Avoid lying
“Do not allow your passion for speaking the truth wane because of the people around (some of whom you respect) you or the difficulty that you are going through. It is written that in the last days the love of many shall wax cold (Matthew 24:12) and that is because man would be lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God (2Timothy 3:1-4). To love God is to commit yourself to his truth, committed to pleasing him in all things even in the words that we speak, we should be ready to live for him starting with our mouth, by avoiding lying.”
Words of healing
“There is potency in the word. Paul wrote that it please God to save some through the foolishness, the simplicity, of the word that is preached (1Corinthians 1:21). God’s word is no ordinary word, it opens the door to the life of God to the believer (Acts 14:26-27).”
‘Take away the dross from the silver’
“He did not have any background sin issues to deal with, no inner conflict to revolve. He was perfect. That is why we are told to look unto him, the author and finisher of our faith, and run the race set before us, as we put aside all the weight and the sin which easily besets us, through his help (Hebrews 12:1-3).”
