In an ancient world where love is a thing to kill for, can she find one to die for?

Alaysha is an outcast in her own village. She's a young witch with a terrible power, and her war-mongering father wants to control it. He wants to control her. But the magic she wields is a force beyond her own belief.

…She can't control it.

…And that scares her.

It makes her a thing to be feared, not loved. A thing to abhor, not accept.

It also makes her the perfect weapon.

And she'll do anything to win her father's love and acceptance.

When he orders her to annihilate a neighboring village, she does his bidding because that's what the tool of the Emir does. She neutralizes his enemies.

But this time, those enemies are innocent.

And her power has grown to a frightening scale.

When one man escapes her seemingly limitless magic she's thrilled to discover someone is out of reach of her power. Someone handsome, arrogant, and mysterious.

Someone who knows the secret to guiding her destructive magic.

But his very existence means she'll face her father's wrath.

If Alaysha can master her powers, she might win the love and respect of her father and his people. She might be able to finally find hope of a future where she is in control instead of being controlled.

But there is always a price to pay for such liberty and it's never cheap.

Can she trust a stranger to help her win her freedom or will doing so put everything she knows, including her heart, at risk?

Q&A WITH THE AUTHOR

Q: Your Witches of Etlantium series is unique in that it presumes a world that seems Earthlike but doesn't have any sense of the geography. It also gives your witches powers that, while they aren't unique in terms of concept, are different in terms of how they wield their powers.

If you had to describe the series to a reader who loves sword and sorcery series with elemental magic, how would you explain the type of magic the witches wield?

A: First of all, since I never seem to be able to write to typical tropes, I'd have to warn readers that my witches don't cast spells. They have an innate kinship with the element they are named for. My elemental magic series explores what might happen if a witch could control the very elements of earth in ways that terrified them and others. I wanted to know how they would manage their lives if they couldn't control the power or if the granting of them was actually part of a lost culture.

I base the water witch story on a vulnerable young witch being manipulated by her father in a world that is earthlike but ancient, formed from the war between twin gods. It's a sort of new adult fiction with witches except based in an ancient world.

Long story, long, my witches are part of a mythological world of Etlantium, and are the personification of four parts of a goddess's makeup: water, air, spark, and dust.
