Whoa! When murder joins up with a ruthless advertising agency executive and a high-end neighborhood equestrian club, the ensuing investigation is not going to be tidy. The crack Atlanta detective team of  Jack Burton and Dave Kazmaroff go deep into the very private and sordid world of both clubs. When the woman everyone hated is murdered, there is no lack of suspects. Jilly Travers made a point of humiliating her co-workers, and sexually blackmailing her superiors. Add to the fact that she was a bitch on wheels (or hooves) at the barn, and nobody’s alibi looks solid. The problem is made worse by the fact that this particular detective team is not together by choice and the two have never managed to get past how much they hate each other. An interesting ride is promised for all when Burton finds himself falling for one of the many suspects–the  beautiful and wealthy equestrian Tess Andersen–about the time his wife decides to leave him.

Form is everything in riding, especially at this level, and Burton and Kazmaroff find it exceedingly difficult to keep it together as the stakes get raised from every side and every angle. The partners’ grisly discovery in the middle of the investigation soon tests not only what the two men believe is  important as policemen but what they know to be true as men.

If you love horses and if you love mysteries, you’ll be chomping at the bit for Walk Trot Die.
