This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Spiritual Growth are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore five topics, from different verses in the books of Joshua, 2Samuel, 1Kings, and 2Chronicles. They are: Rest; Despising the word; The gift of a wise and discerning heart; Gaining the right sense of judgement; and Addiction.
Excerpts:
Rest
“Our work therefore on his behalf is not of struggle. We work in his power, we go with his unstoppable mandate the unstoppable mandate of the one who knows the end from the beginning; He says: my counsel will stand I will do all my will (Isaiah 46:10). We can rest in that assurance.”
Despising the word
“But the freedom to come to Christ and receive his forgiveness should not be misconstrued for the license for sinning because nobody continues in sin and claim to know Christ who is righteousness personified (Jeremiah 23:6, 1Corinthians 1:30).”
The gift of a wise and discerning heart
“It is therefore not just about what you know but who you know and yield to. That is why in Christ we are at an advantage because we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13), of Jesus, where our understanding can be illuminated (thoughts) and lives guided aright (intent).”
Gaining the right sense of judgement
“But the mule, is an underperformer, he is the ever-learning-but-never-coming-to-the-knowledge-of-the-truth kind of person (2Timothy 3:7). He is the slow learner, and when he should be a teacher, he needs teacher to teach him ABC of the Christian faith (Hebrews 5:11-14).”
Addiction
“We should yield our words to him. The psalmist prayed: let the word of my mouth and the meditation of my heart is acceptable to you oh God (Psalm 19:14). Paul said that our words should be seasoned with salt so as to minister grace to the hearers (Ephesians 4:29). Yielding our lives to God can start at any age, and there is no limit in the length of time and the season of our lives.”
