This is an easy to read, yet engaging book that helps you prayerfully read through the first eight chapters of Romans. - Pastor Roger N. Hayes "Transformational Prayers begins with a great little helper for prayer that everyone should read. Then, Roger takes you through a well done survey on the letter to the Romans. The chapters of prayer illuminate Roger's heart, as he has poured it out, while keeping true to Paul's themes throughout." - Brother Bill Sulzer "In reading Roger's book of prayer, I find myself living in his words. I make his prayers my prayers. I never knew that praying the Scriptures would improve my prayer life so much." - Tiffany J. Hayes "Buckle up, Pastor Roger's book may take you into a new and dangerous place; one that puts you in direct relationship with God almighty." - Chaplain Roger W. Hayes
This book is designed to help the reader prayerfully read the letter to the Romans. The breakdown of this book begins with a Preface that gives a brief introduction to Romans. Following the Preface, there are eight chapters of prayer. These chapters coincide with the chapters in the letter to the Romans, up to the half-way point, in the sixteen chapter work. The layout of the prayers within the chapters is done section by section and nearly verse by verse. The prayers are festooned (amplified) from the Scripture and simplified for the current day reader. It should be fairly easy to navigate this book alongside your Bible. The second part to this first book, coming soon, will cover the remanding eight chapters, done in a similar format.
I am completing this work as a project for a class on prayer that I am taking at Ashland Theological Seminary. Now, I have decided to include this project into my three volume series of Transformational Words, Transformational Prayers, and Transformational Devotions. Transformational Words is a book consisting of thirty sermons that I have preached while serving at Trinity United Methodist Church. Transformational Devotions is not yet completed, but will hopefully be out within the 2011 year.
My prayer for anyone reading this book is that you may grow in your prayer life. Before you begin to read and pray through the book, let me share a few brief insights on prayer.
First, prayer is simply conversation with God, so speak to Him as though you are speaking to a friend or more literally your father. Second, when you do not know how to pray, pray for the Spirit of prayer saying, “Lord teach me to pray.” (Luke 11:1) Or, simply ask the Holy Spirit to show you what to pray for. (Romans 8:26) In O. Hallesby’s book on Prayer, he suggests that, “To pray is nothing more involved than to let Jesus come into our hearts, to give Him access with all His power to our needs.” (O. Hallesby, Prayer (Minneapolis: Augsburg Fortress, 1994), 153.) Remember to pray is conversation, so allow Him time to speak to you. Find times to be still and turn off the distractions, because the Lord wants all of you in relationship. Pray without ceasing and pray for God’s will to be done. Pray so that His glory may be shown and pray knowing that He loves you and listens to you even when you do not think He hears you. Understand that He knows what is best, and sometimes it goes against what we think should happen. Trust that the Lord will answer prayer in His timing and for good!
May the Lord bless you in your journey with Him in the name of Jesus, amen.
