William Ralston Shedden-Ralston was an English writer and linguist, mostly known as an expert on Russian life and popularizer of Russian folklore and literature.
“The Priest With The Greedy Eyes” is a legend, entered in “Russian Fairy Tales, A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folklore”. The story tells about one greedy Pope, who served in the parish of St. Nicholas, until such time as there remained to him nothing either for board or lodging. Then Pope leaves the parish and goes on travel. On the way he meets the old man and they continue the travel together. On the road the varying cases determined the men’s real character waiting for them.
We present you the literature works of the author, whose creature had made Russian folk narratives becoming an integral part of European children’s literature and culture.
