Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch (21 November 1863 – 12 May 1944) was a British author, poet, anthologist, and literary critic. He wrote many popular novels and essays and was a noted lecturer at Cambridge University. He was an active worker in politics for the Liberal Party. There was an abandoned cottage in a small village. Near it were two high hills, which were covered by wild weed. Walls of cottage were ruined and covered with mud, mosses and ragwort. One morning, near the close of the last century, a small child came running down to the village with news that the cottage, which for ten years had stood empty, and said that there was smoke coming out at the chimney, and an outlandish lady walking in the garden.
