Zsolt Battis receives confidential documents via e-mail from Annika Thanatos, who entrusts him with the safekeeping. She is upset, having received death threats while she visits London on an art tour. He contacts Annika’s friend Symi Heyman the next day, being e-mailed by her about Annika’s death through suspected poisoning. Zsolt grieves for his friend and uses his pending art-lecturing tour to revenge the death of Annika. He is intrigued by the repeated requests from Symi to hand over letters, Annika had sent him, which become bargain tickets for him to enter the ring of Informers.
He uses his talents as a portrait artist to gain the trust of some confidantes, to meet the suspected killer of Annika.
A meeting with Symi at the Tate Modern for a dance performance leads to his introduction of Marcel Lasri, the Tango Man, who will constantly challenge Zsolt, who is Symi’s love interest. Marcel has success with opening a Tango Argentino dancing school in Richmond, where Helen Bydand and her soulmate Symi have joined as members.
Helen throws a party in her Hampstead home, having sold the film rights to her latest romantic novel. Zsolt observes the Tango Man through a secret window, attempting to subjugate Symi with drugs. He chases a lewd Marcel to the Heath Ponds, where Marcel disappears between the nude bathers. Cunning Marcel attacks an unsuspecting Zsolt, who feels humiliated by Marcel’s rude and destructive behavior walking back to Helen’s home, waylaying him and knifing his thigh.
Under Helen’s and Symi’s care he recovers. He meets Susan Bolag, the sensual woman, who seduces him while he paints her.
On a visit to help his aunt Eszter Karinty in Budapest, Zsolt meets Susan again by accident. She reveals to him part of her secret life in her bedroom.
Helen contacts Zsolt with the disappearance of Symi. She had been informed that Marcel’s men abducted her. Susan gives Zsolt access to her PC and the secrets to the ring of Informers, she is part of.
Helen and Zsolt race to Paris with Lancelot, a custom made Ford, Helen’s friend had loaned her. On their way to the Euro tunnel train they realize that they are followed.
Marcel on their heels, foils the handover of Symi and Caramel for bribe-money to their guards. Symi jumps into the Seine behind her friend Caramel, who is fatally shot. Rescuing Symi, Zsolt pulls her to the embankment and is hit unconscious by Marcel, lying in wait.
Helen drives back to London, as Zsolt receive information from Susan about Symi. Helen rushes off to a mysterious appointment at the British Museum, after a phone call. The bus she is on explodes from a terrorist bomb.
John, Zsolt’s cousin, who works in the anti-terror-unit at Scotland Yard, has decoded the messages in Annika’s letters. Time runs out. He sets a plan of rescue into action. The Tate Modern is celebrating and behind the multination’s flag-cloth, wrapping the museum, the bombs are primed.
Can Zsolt find the access code from his informer in time to enter the vault Symi is to die in? Will the batteries of his mobile phone last or fail? The final show down has begun with the Tango Man’s dance.
