Harrie Irving Hancock was an American chemist and writer of children's literature in the late 19th-20th centuries. A prolific author was also known as a successful journalist and wrote for the New York Journal. Being a talented and sensitive person Hancock wrote fantastic stories for the children. He strongly believed that "boys want the thrill of feeling 'grown-up'" and that they like books about heroes and adventures.
