Jack is born into the Ayat Nation on Terr at Sol, Place of Peace, Earth. But Humanity began its evolutionary development on Lantius, the ancestral Home World. The Sun of the Lantian System began to expand and the Planets and People feared with each generation that theirs would be the end of life in the ancient realms. Interstellar travel was too costly, too few had to travel too far and no one knew if any of the limited numbers would survive or be able to propagate the species. With war amongst the planets only heartbeats away, the Gates were discovered. The concentration of dark energy into infinitely long conduits of power, were the last vestiges of the Big Bang of Creation. But Gates are tricky, they vary in power, in endurance, and in destination. Yet they were Hope. And the Lantians, led by the Ayat, genetically enhanced humans, yearned to explore the Gates. Terr at Sol, the only viable option amongst a Universe of Stars. The Ayat began a slow laborious expedition to Earth, only to find Humanity was already there! Limited in numbers and prehistoric, but Humanity was already spread thinly across the continents of the New World. The Ayat attempted to control the Gates and those 'Coming Through.' Progress was slow, Gates were variable, sporadic, temparamental, often simply closed. The various factions within the Lantian System have become impatient and the Tanans, long term adversaries of the Ayat, have been planning their attack. With Lightening speed and ferocity they destroy all the thinly spread Ayat Guardian forces and assume an undisputed hegemony of the entire solar system. The Ayat of Lantius and their counterparts of Earth work together to prevent the Tanans gaining access to Terr at Sol. The Gate Guardians provide the sole line of defence between the future of all Humanity and the future of the select few Tanan Elite. Jack fails the tests, despite his parents' attempts at utilising Gate energy to enhance Jack's neurons. Jack must either be Lost to the Nation or the entire family will be isolated. Before they choose, his mother is murdered in an apparent terrorist bombing. His father grief stricken, desolate, though still proud and defiant decides to remove himself and Jack from the overbearing Eye of the Vishan Madris, the leader of the Ayat and Jack's maternal Grandfather. On his sixteenth birthday Jack has been promised the truth about his uniqueness, carefully, though not always successfully hidden from his human friends. The Tanan sympathisers on Earth, the Yit Varti, strike and kill his father. Overnight Jack is plunged into a new world, the Ayat world. Jack is sent to his paternal Grandfather, an aged husk, struggling to find meaning in the last years of his long life. Jack's nightly visions and the name he calls out in his sleep awakens true Purpose in the Old Man. They race from the desolate northern coast of Scotland to the jungles of Chiang Rai, Thailand, where one of the secret Ayat Acadamaes instructs the young of the Nation. Here Jack excels as a Guardian, but finds he lacks certain key talents essential to Ayat life. During one test his distinctive skill set is partially discovered and the interest the Yit Varti have in him is understood. The Two Systems are on a knife edge and open warfare is close at hand. The Acadamae is attacked, the Redyn Council is targeted and a worldwide race begins to prevent an invasion of the Tanan engibred warriors, the Susayati. But Jack is different and his neurons do not align as human or even Ayat neurons should. There is discord and his emanations cause fluctuations in Dark Energy. Will he master Gates or will he destroy them and in so doing consign humanity to cosmic isolation and extinction?
