it was another very cold night for the men at the end of the road besides the doc’s house.
harry. bill and dougie, we're standing at the wall outside the old house? harry said. ‘let’s go inside the house lads its freezing out here.’ ‘oh i don’t know about that said dougie, have you forgotten about the two lads that were here last night.’ ‘well you can stay out here if you like but I am going out of this cold.’ ‘yes and I am going with you said bill.’ the two men went into the house but dougie stayed outside.
it was about twenty minutes later when harry and Bill heard Dougie scream. Bill went to the door and looked out to where dougie was last seen. bill went to the bottom of the stairs and shouted up. ‘harry you o-k.’ ‘yes but watch out for them bastards, and don’t go outside.’
harry moved to the window and looked out but could see nothing. It was a dark night. he stood there for two or three minutes. when he saw a red flash down the stairwell, he shouted. ‘bill.’
no answer. he started to panic. he looked up to the roof. he could see stars in the sky where a hole about three feet wide was. he looked around the room then took the old chair over to the hole. then stood on it, he was about two feet short. panic was getting a hold of him now. he looked around the room again. he could see a set of old drawers in the corner. he dragged them over to the hole then he put the chair on top of them. then he climbed up to the top. this time his head and shoulders were above the roof. he put his gun on the roof and climbed through the hole. then he lay down and grabbed for the chair but could not reach it. he put his gun through the hole the gun had a webbing strap. he hooked the strap over the arm of the chair but when he came to pull it through the hole he could not get a hold of it, because he had the gun in the wrong hand, he lifted up the
chair and managed to get hold. then the strap on his gun got caught on a roof tile and his gun fell to the floor below. this made him even more nervous. he heard something in the room below. he was frantic now he took hold of the chair and put his foot against the bottom bar then pulled with all his might until the leg came off his hands. he now had a club as a weapon. he sat by the whole waiting.
when the thing put its head through the hole and started to put its arms through. that’s when harry hit it over the head with all his strength. The alien with a scream withdrew its head from the hole. then about half a minute later it started to come through the hole again. harry could see he had not done much damage to its head. In panic he looked around then his hand fell on a loose roof tile. It was one of the flat gray kind.
