This is a book that helps children learn their ABC's while learning about birds at the same time. Twenty-three of the 26 letters of the alphabet are accompanied by a full-page, full-color drawing of a bird whose name starts with that letter, such as Robin for "R.". Each letter is also accompanied by a description of the bird, including its scientific name. This will be instructive for older children. The author also includes what she calls "nonsense rhymes" for younger children for each bird. These little poems are really very sensible and much above the average of verse for children -- such as these witty line of the Ibis: "That bill it is so very long, Your shortest note must be a song." We heartily recommend her book for holiday time and all times.
Included in this Illustrated Edition of ABC Book of Birds are all 23 original illustrations, in color, rejuvenated, and 10 additional, relevant illustrations unique to this edition of the book.
Mary Catherine Judd (1854 - 1930s) was an author and educator. She wrote many of her best-selling books while serving as Principal of the Lincoln School, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She intended that most of her books be used as part of a students classroom education.
