Scholarly Publishing in Emerging Nations, the second volume in the Essential Journal of Scholarly Publishing series, presents and examines the challenges and achievements of scholarly publishing operations in emerging nations such as China, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. In his introduction to this volume, series editor Albert N. Greco of the Fordham Business School provides historical context to the growth of scholarly publishing in emerging nations and, through several statistical tables, quantifies the growth of emerging nations’ publication output in the early twenty-first century. The articles in this volume discuss various aspects of scholarly publishing and how they uniquely affect these specific nations and their distinctive sets of circumstances, including peer review, international influence, communication in the digital age, measures to shorten publication lags, and the demand for scholarly publishing in all corners of the globe.
