This is a one act play about the great film director Orson Welles. It depicts an imagined visit by Welles and members of his Mercury Theater Company to perform a radio play in Canberra, Australia in 1940 for the purpose of raising morale for the British war effort in World War 2, a war the US had not yet entered. All the personages and events referred to in the play are actual historical facts. But the visit of Welles to Australia and everything presented about it is a fiction.
This play was given a staged reading in Canberra in September 12, 2014 as part of the Crash Test Drama program and the version presented here has been revised in response to notes taken during that performance. The play runs around 15 minutes total.

This play can be read as a text, of course, but I am also providing a license to allow people to perform it so long as no ticket or other admission fees are charged and as long as the performance is for educational and nonprofit purposes only. Obtaining rights to plays can be expensive and beyond the reach of educators and students particularly. It is hoped that this little play may aid performers, directors and others desiring to put on a show without the expense of licensing costs. The only thing I ask is that all people involved in a production buy their own copy of it.

Somewhat unusually I make no restriction on alterations to this work in performance so long as the original script is acknowledged and all amendments to it are clearly indicated as the work of others. This right is for performance only, not any other purposes such as publication. My intent is to allow students of drama in particular to have maximum creative scope and to experiment with their writing as well as their acting and directing and producing crafts.
