Fred Wacker was a Formula 1 driver from the Chicago area who drove for Gordini among other marques. He became President of the Chicago Chapter of the Sports Car Club of America. Fred stressed safety issues, especially crowd control and the safety of sports car drivers. Wacker married a singer named Jana in the 1950s. His family was a noted one, his grandfather having been a commissioner of planning in Chicago in the early 20th century. Fred Wacker scored no points as a Formula One driver racing in such events as the French Grand Prix in 1953. He will, however, be remembered as a pioneer in his sports, an early American in Grand Prix racing before Phil Hill and Masten Gregory came along.
