Cedar waxwings have been called the gypsies of the bird family as their range is uneven and widespread. This species of birds, Bombycilla cedorum, can be found from New York to Georgia on the east coast. They breed in New York and Canada and fly to wherever they can find the berries which are the mainstay of their diet. Cedar waxwings have an especial fondness for red cedar berries but also many other types of berries and fruits as well as insects and sap. The only other waxwing, of three worldwide, that lives in the United States is the bohemian waxwing. This bird is rarely found on the east coast, ranging from western Alaska, Manitoba and other far west locations. Its plumage is also somewhat duller than the cedar waxwing.
