Crossroads (The Choice)

by craig lock

Crossroads: A new e-book (er, sorry, “vook/fook” = ebook + videos) of reflections and memories on the strange twists and turns that is the incredible and fascinating journey of life…

Man is made or unmade by himself.

By the right choice he ascends.

As a being of power, intelligence, and love,

and the lord of his own thoughts,

he holds the key to every situation.
- James Allen

I know how the story began...but don't know how the story will end...

PROLOGUE
(Flashback)

A turbulent and very uncertain period in the history of South Africa- the low scale civil war in the mid eighties

The Trojan Horse during the State of Emergency

When decisions were made

“How do I live in this strange, uncertain, yet diverse and exciting place”?
“How can I live in this strange,”mal, bedonderde”, uncertain, yet diverse, vibrant and exciting country”
“Either we stayed as we were, trapped inside our fortress of paranoia, deformed by fear and greed, or we opened the door to Africa… and set forth into the unknown.”
- powerful writing by Rian Malan in his compelling book ‘My Traitor’s Heart’
from Crossroads (The Choice) – a book still to be written!

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963)

To the great singing of Shosholoza* & Nkosi Sikelel'i Afrika*,

Shosholoza is a rousing song sung by the miners (many of them migrant) deep in the seams of the Gold Mines of the Reef around Johannesburg": "Press on, press on". It's now often sung at critical stages of Springbok rugby test matches. Quite a transformation in the society!

Nkosi... is the beautiful, stirring and haunting national anthem of "the Beloved Country" (always)

Crossroads: The Choice – A new book, er sorry “fook”
