Murders Most Foul
11 A Local Murder/Don't Push
CD throws a New Year party. A flashy woman attends, then is found dead in the morning at the community center. It turns out she was a semi-famous artist who featured male nudes. Some of them were people right there in the community.
(The eventual solution is found near the first of teh book. No one catches it. I didn't until I was writing the session where CD faces the murderer - and I wrote it!)
Pt. Two, Sean and Lorna find a body in Estero Bay. The MP officer says it was a drug execution. CD finds the victim never had any connections whatever with drugs. He did have a video of a local permitting board taking a bribe.
12 Orchids for the Funeral - 14 shorts
Written to help finance a scholarship. All these stories are connected with the orchid collection of CD and Alma. some, such as the first, were formerly published. Most were written for this book.
13 Bottleneck
This book was nominated for an award by a critic.
The woman who ran the community center is murdered. CD investigates and comes across a kiddie porn ring operating out of the trailer park. He goes to Denmark and Australia and England to gather evidence. When the killer is surrounded, he tries to get a psychological set-up to save him from the chair. Will it work?
14 Dead File
CD looks at some old files and comes across a cryptic note to himself, checks on it and ends up on a Caribbean Island involved with murder in Florida and there. A charismatic woman and a stockbroker who was supposed to be dead seemed to be heading the plot. They are on an island where they probably can't be extradited on a charge of fraud. CD has to tie them to the murders to be sure they will be prosecuted.
15 Pool Party
A man is stabbed to death at a pool party. CD is called to investigate and finds ties to two murders ten years ago and a brothel. It seems somehow tied to a box of antiques a woman brought to the party. CD has to trace some people who were working in the brothel ten years ago to solve the murders of the people who ran the brothel and to solve the case he had right there and now.
16 Deadly Island
One of “The Kids” is charged with murder on St. Wartons. CD investigates to find himself in the middle of a very strange intrigue indeed! A bunch of international mobsters are going to try to take over South America! One of the plotters is a beautiful Oriental woman with a fun sense of humor. Like her or not, CD can't let this one get away. There's too much at stake.
17 A Step Too Far
Tony Jacobi's wife's sister is murdered. It seems to be some kind of threat to CD and his family. He will not, under any circumstances whatever, allow anyone to get away with threatening his family or friends. Killing one was a step too far. CD would see no one involved in that act wuld survive. His trouble was that he didn't have a clue as to who it was.
He gets involved with taking out a drug factory in Mexico. It's his first case where he is involved in direct action of that sort.
