This story tells the tale of the author's visit to Magazine Mountain, the highpoint of Arkansas. A highpoint is the highest naturally occurring geographic point in a state. Magazine Mountain is the 34th-highest highpoint in the 50 states. The summit is 2,753 feet above sea level. The visit took place in the same year (1997) as the third Ameritrek, the subject of the main book, Finding the Lost River Range. The author started out a deskbound accountant and refers to his highpointing adventures (and occasional misadventures) as mountaineering for mortals. In Arkansas, he drove and walked to the top of Magazine Mountain, so no traditional climbing was involved. This is not a comprehensive guide detailing every possible route to the top.
