This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Jesus are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore eight topics, from different verses in the books of Hebrews, 1Peter and Revelation. They are: Heir of all things spiritual, physical and of the soul; Jesus goes before us as forerunner; A priest forever; Jesus and the better hope; A new covenant in force; You have come to Jesus; Jesus: made alive in the spirit; and The blood of the Lamb.
Excerpts:
Heir of all things spiritual, physical and of the soul
“We also share his purpose. He said: as the father send me, I also send you (John 20:21). By the connection he brought us into with the father and the Spirit, making us children of God and having the Spirit upon and inside us, we have access to some spiritual gifts, to walk in the supernatural on the earth, expressing mercy, teaching God’s word, revealing mysteries. In all these, we share the ministry of Jesus. Purpose speaks of identity and mission, which we share spiritually with Jesus.”
Jesus goes before us as forerunner
“This flows into sanctification. It comes with the idea that we were lost to the devil, now we have been taken from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13). Jesus went to hell on our behalf, so it is pointless for us to go there again, we already went there, in him. By the blood we have been redeemed into the fold of God from the hold of the devil.”
A priest forever
“God told Israel said that he allowed them to be hungry in the wilderness so that they will know that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8:3). Life proceeds from the mouth of God, and that is what we experience in Jesus, the priest forever (John 6:68).”
Jesus and the better hope
“The hope that Jesus Christ brings is that we can step fully into all the possibilities in God for us since we are on this earth to fulfil our mandate as members of the body of Christ.”
A new covenant in force
“When God made man, the covenant was the covenant of obedience, and when man broke the covenant, direct relationship with God was cut off (Genesis 3). But for Jesus it is the covenant of faith. Someone came to Jesus and said that what should I do to do the works of God, to please God (John 6:28-29)? The answer was: believe in the one he has sent. That is the covenant of faith, which says believed in your heart the Lord Jesus and confess with your mouth that God raised him from the dead, and you shall be saved (Romans 10:1-18).”
You have come to Jesus
“Jesus wants us to be peacemakers wherever we are (Matthew 5:9). Not only that we were told that as much as it lies within our power, we should be at peace with all men (Romans 12:14, Romans 12:18).”
Jesus: made alive in the spirit
“He is not just a Jew but having been made an impacting Spirit (1Corinthians 15:45), he is made the source of life for all who come to God through him (Hebrew 7:25), he now stands for life (1John 5:11-12).
“That he was made alive means he is the re-energised Jesus who is now able to energise you from within with the very life of God.”
The blood of the Lamb
“When people know that the blood gives them access to God, it changes their life. If frees them from the burden of guilt, moving them away from the law and purifying our conscience. With the Holy Spirit in our heart because of the preparation of the blood of Jesus, the change in our life is radical. All because of the blood of Jesus. Jesus said that if we eat his flesh and drink his blood we will have life (John 6:53), and abundant life comes through Jesus (John 10:10).”
