“Do this for me, Ike,” Kelly’s tone held a pleading sound, as she pressed her lips firmly to the receiver while using her sexiest tone to persuade him into agreeing. “I’ve never asked you for anything like this before and I’m not going to take no for an answer. I know you’ll get into it once we start.”
This was the first time she had ever suggested or brought up the subject to her husband and she crossed her fingers waiting to hear his answer. She didn’t have a clue whether he would think she had lost her mind in putting the idea to him, or feel excited about the prospect in trying something different.
There was silence for so long from Ike’s end of the line that Kelly thought he had hung up. She was on the verge of giving up when she heard him cough lightly. Well, at least he was mulling it over.
Ike Morgan could be stubborn, but she hoped this wasn’t one of those times. Tonight was for his benefit as well as hers. While she waited for his decision, Kelly drummed her fingers across her wooden desktop. She couldn’t figure out what was taking him so long in deciding. She shook her head in exasperation expecting his answer to be no.
“All right, but it’s only going to be the one time,” he said, his sigh filling the receiver. “I must be ten kinds of fool to even consider what you’re suggesting. If someone catches us, then it’s on your head, not mine. I’ll wait for your call.” There was silence on his end of the line for several seconds. “Is that the reason you gave me your key to the lobby of your building this morning?”
“Yes, I wanted you to wait until everyone was gone for the night. Trust me, I won’t call you until the coast is clear,” she reassured him, feeling an exhilaration zipping through her. “I’ll be eagerly waiting for you.” She doubted whether he even heard her answer. The dial tone had quickly sounded in her ear ending their conversation.
She couldn’t believe she convinced him so easily. The idea of what she had to look forward to come six o’clock whirled through her head. A smile lined her lips over her accomplishment.
