Police officer Truett Maas skids through a hard twenty-four hours. He buries his murdered father in the morning, and a bomb planted in a bulletproof vest kills his partner in the afternoon. At night Truett follows a lead, gets bonked on the head and is roused by the Voice on his cell phone. Latched around Truett’s ankle is a remote-controlled explosive device making Truett’s next twenty-four hours rougher. Truett must do increasingly deadlier tasks, or the Voice ignites the device. Truett calls it quits after the first job--and the device is discharged.

As Truett learns to walk again, the Voice kidnaps Truett’s son as leverage. Truett races to uncover political machinations involving the mayor, sheriff, chief of police and a group of investors, all of whom are after blighted downtown property. In the end, Truett raises the stakes in order to save his son.

Set in the borderlands of the Southwest, Zeroing In is a 110,000-word thriller melding elements of Chinatown, Presumed Innocent and Body Heat.
