Christian worship is usually taken to mean responding to God's Spirit when we sing "praise and worship songs" on Sundays, or in a broader sense, the worship service itself, including the songs, the Word, and prayer. However, that is not what Jesus was talking about when he told the woman of Samaria, "True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth." As believers, instead of offering physical sacrifices at a temple, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, witnesses of God's presence on the earth. As Peter puts it, we are a royal priesthood, called to offer spiritual sacrifices pleasing to the Lord. (1Pet 2:5) True worship is to offer these spiritual sacrifices every day of the week, glorifying God and becoming intercessors of his grace and truth to the world. This book explains the spiritual sacrifices of our worship, based on Christ's fulfillment of the old covenant sacrifices.
