Synopsis from Chapter 3: Transformed By His Divine Power

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

GOD’S ABILITY IS AVAILABLE for you to work His works in this world. He has purposed that you, through His power, become what He intended you to be before the foundation of the earth. To fulfill such great purpose does not depend on anything that you are today! It depends on His divine power to transform you into the person He has always desired you to be. But for Him to accomplish this requires a willing and obedient heart.

If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land.  (Isaiah 1:19)

Beloved, there is not a mountain, circumstance, sickness or disease that can stand against the Spirit of God on the inside of you. But you will not realize such awesome power unless you are obedient to Him. If your heart is not surrendered to Him, there are a lot of other things in this world that will try to force your heart to surrender. Trials of life can bring you to despair, unless you are totally committed to following Christ with all your heart. And while your own power and ability may fail, the power of the Holy Spirit inside of you will always overcome anything that tries to withstand the will of God for your life.

Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the LORD of Hosts. (Zechariah 4:6)

Is it power you need? Do you stand today in need of God’s ability to touch your life? Such power is a promise of Jesus to those who are surrendered to His will.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

The key word here is “witnesses.” This word is translated “testify,” “testimony” and “witness” in the Greek New Testament. The Hebrew term from which the same words are derived is edah. The meaning of this verb is “to repeat or do again,” and that is precisely the job of the witness—to repeat and/or replicate what they have seen and heard. All these terms have the same emphatic sense.

Now that we have a little understanding of the word “witness,” what is a witness? A witness is a proof-producer.

He is one that gives out confirmation by giving a testimony. Offering evidence of actual events, the witness provides facts that are based on direct personal knowledge and experience.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus said that after the Holy Spirit had come upon the believers, they would receive the power that would enable them to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth. In other words, His disciples (believers) would be endowed, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to replicate what Jesus did. They would be capable of yielding the evidence from their personal experience with the power of God.

What power did these beloved disciples experience? They experienced salvation and forgiveness of sins. They experienced His delivering power. They experienced healing of all their sicknesses and diseases. They also received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. There was no problem in their lives that Jesus was not able to solve. The same is true for us today. All of the manifestations of God’s power are for us today. There is nothing that God will withhold from those who are submitted to Him.
