William Clarke Quantrill was a famous bushwhacker who led an infamous raid on Lawrence, Kansas on August 21, 1863. My e-book looks at Quantrill's late 1864 move into Kentucky, which by then had become a much more fervent theater for bushwhacking than Missouri. The defeat of Confederate General Sterling Price's Missouri raid in 1864 concluded the Confederate cause in that state. I look closely at Quantrill, his aims in going to Kentucky and the men who were his followers. The Kansas-born Confederate guerrilla found sympathizers loyal to the CSA cause, particularly in Nelson County, KY. In fact Quantrill had taken up in the barn of Confederate sympathizer James Wakefield when he and his band were surprised by Union troops under Edwin Terrell on the morning of May 10, 1865.
