Maran is called by the White Lady, the goddess of life and death.
According to the teachings, when the White Lady wakes, the whole world dies in frost and winter. When she sleeps, the world warms, letting plants grow and thrive.
“Meeting the White Lady” is a euphemism for death.
Yet Maran follows this path. What does it mean to be called? How do you serve a being so terrible? As a servant, what are her duties and responsibilities? Her people used to know these things but those traditions have been forgotten.
In order to relearn what was lost, Maran leaves home, searching for questions, hoping for answers. Her task will require courage, sincerity, and most especially, her inborn dwarven stubbornness.
