This book covers food insecurity problems in the Himalayan region through a detailed study of Humla district in Nepal. The impact of climate change is strongly felt in this region as temperature rise in the Himalaya has been higher than in other parts of the globe. The effect of warming Himalaya is compounded by land degradation leading to decline in production and productivity of land. Likewise, the socio-political situation that could have helped in the availability of and access to food has not been conduceive in this region, especially after the 1950s - the period that led to the disruption of trade between Tibet and the Himalayan region of Nepal. The book also discusses how the gender and caste discriminations along with geographical exclusion affect food security.

This book will be useful for the students of food security and international development as there is a good discussion on various concepts related to food security and on how these concepts can be used for research studies. Policy makers and development partners interested in Himalayan region will also benefit from the book.
