This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Life in the Spirit are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore six topics, from different verses in the book of Psalms. They are: Anointing of priests and kings; Holy oil; Transformation by the Spirit; and Precious oil.
Excerpts:
Anointing of priests and kings
“Jesus said that the disciples are become his friends and not slaves because they know what he is doing (John 15:15).  By communicating what Jesus is saying, what the Spirit is saying to the churches, they protect them from the evil influence of wolves, and the devil who seeks to hamper the expression of their kingly and priestly anointing. Paul said that he commits the people to God and the word of his grace which is able to build them up and give them an inheritance among those who are sanctified (Acts 20:35).”
Holy oil
“Without the operation of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the disciples, there cannot be the push of the gospel. The gospel is not just a set of words; it is the manifestation of Christ himself, who came to bring heaven down to the earth. It is giving witness to the resurrection of Jesus, with signs and wonders. And the apostles were careful to note that the Holy Spirit was their co-witness (Acts 5:32). He does not take the back seat, but drives the whole process as long as the disciples cooperated with him.”
Transformation by the Spirit
“As stated before, the Spirit is about function while order is about form, and you cannot totally separate one from the other. Jesus gives the form of the church, we are his body and he is the truth. The Spirit provides for the dynamic functioning of each part, animating it. The body is animated by the Holy Spirit, as a living, breathing structure, as the conveyor of the transforming presence of God to the world.”
Precious oil
“The Holy Spirit changes you and you bring changes to the deadness around. In the context of the focus verse a united church does better therefore at reaching the world, and facilitating transformation (Psalm 133).”
