This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Holiness are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore six topics, from different verses in the books of 1Samuel, 2Samuel, 1Kings and 2Kings. They are: Dishonest gain; Idleness breeds sin; How to avoid fornication and adultery; Greed; Doing good in God’s sight I&II.
Excerpts:
Dishonest gain
“Making dishonest gain is about sacrificing relationships; it sacrifices a good name (Proverbs 22:1) on the altar of Mammon, exchanging spiritual value for ephemeral gain. It is not worth it.”
Idleness breeds sin
“He had the power to command, and he used it to arrange for Uriah’s death. The privilege to command should not be abused, should not be used to crush others, it should be for the purpose of achieving his kingly responsibility of protecting the people under him, helping them on in every sense possible.”
How to avoid fornication and adultery
“Never give attention to sexually in-appropriate pictures. If you are already hooked; I believe re-conceptualising you mind, like what I have been saying above, will go a long way. It may be a little difficult especially if your father was also into pornography. It is battle you must fight. Never resign yourself to it. These motions of the flesh war against you (1Peter 2:11); there may not be a solution except you come into deeper relationship with God, so that the heat of his presence burns of the appeal of pornography, so that like him, you will be of purer eyes than to behold iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13).”
Greed
“Do not purse riches pursue God, as it is written, seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you, all what the unbelievers go after (Matthew 6:33).”
Doing good in God’s sight (I)
“One song that David wrote was: the Lord is good and mercy endures forever (1Corinthians 16:34). Goodness emanates from God and as we bear his nature, goodness will also emanate from us but never apart from him. He is the only one inherently good, and apart from him we can do nothing (John 15:5), we can express no goodness.”
Doing good in God’s sight (II)
“There is no greater evil than to reject Jesus. It has eternal consequences. That is the sin against the Holy Spirit, to leave this earth without embracing the blood of Jesus as shed for the remission of our sins; it is those un-remitted sins that will take us to hell, not because of lack of solution from God, but lack of belief in Jesus, not because of your many sins, but because you reject God’s way for you.”
