When humanity escaped to the stars,
greed and tyranny eagerly pursued.
From behind the faceplate of his spacesuit, Tod Riley dreams of exploring other worlds. Tod’s life is quiet, but he strives to build a future among the stars as he works to build Dritta’s first space station and helps a marooned space trader fix his broken star ship.

His dreams turn to nightmares when the Unity Starship Grissom comes crashing into the system bringing the tyrannical hand of the Unity government with it. It's not long before violence erupts on the station. The colonists compel the warship to leave, but it does not go alone.

Several colonists are abducted, pressed into service on the Grissom and forced into the nightmare of never-ending war. Tod and the others face injury and degradation as the ship takes them further from the home they may never see again. The captain and crew treat them as criminals. Only the dream of eventual release and freedom keep the enslaved colonists going. A dream that quickly fades as his friends die one by one and the revelation that the captain has been engaged in piracy.

Tod realizes that if he is ever going to see the rings of Dritta again, he must risk everything to escape the warship and somehow find his way across the light years of empty space that separates him from home world.
