In Pemota, Oregon, a young Hispanic boy named Rey Naresh is going into the ninth grade. Aba Brule, the psychic on Mount Monadnock, Rey visited in seventh grade, is powerfully in his mind. It’s a melancholy start to the school year – until a Math book Rey possesses tells him “the Lemonites are watching him.” Rey unites with his crush, Christy Lane, and the two of them embark on an adventure that forces them to confront a group of troublemakers called Nadine’s Puppies. It all seems to have something to do with a chemical compound that the graffiti on the school proclaims is called: “Lemonine.”
Elijah Wilson has written a novel that is as easy to read as it is enjoyable. Uncommon Oregon: A Pear from Spring Stone, is at times funny, at times silly, and at times tongue in cheek. As a reader, you’ll read with a smile on your face, as you delve deeper and deeper into a story that is both realistic and absurd, truthful and insightful.
