When Sophie is rescued from a hostage situation by Lucas, a Tactical Response Team Leader, she lies to him about her own top secret profession as one of Australia's covert agents. This mistaken belief leads him to make a personal request of her that takes them both into a series of tense and dangerous events – events that bring them together both professionally and intimately.

Lucas believes that his ex-wife is conspiring to take his son away and wants Sophie to prove or disprove his suspicions – a simple job for someone with Sophie's talents. However, when a third party enters the picture and Sophie realises that he is on her government department's Watch List, simple becomes complicated.

While performing their regular assignments, Lucas and Sophie must prevent Lucas' ex-wife's partner, an unethical criminal with ties to some of the nation's worst criminals, from carrying out his own hidden agenda in laundering dirty money without the government's notice. Using Sophie's covert tactics and Lucas' battle hardened experience they fight to avert the schemes and threats of criminals hiding behind respectable facades. All the while, personal concerns and emotions come to the fore as they each come to grips with the other's risky occupation and realise that, to stay together, they must accept each other unconditionally.

Both Sophie and Lucas live on the edge and are experts in their respective fields, but as they work together they succeed in unravelling a tangle of danger, violence, deception, intrigue, illegal corporate dealings and kidnapping. At the same time they find themselves drawn together by the dangers they face and the need for companionship and sexual release in their perilous world – a world that outsiders cannot understand.
