Preface
Karen looked at herself squarely in the bathroom mirror. "What have I done?" she chastised her reflection.
'To go' sex, as her friend Angelika had put it, definitely wasn't her style. But two mojitos and one sangria later and she'd given in to the desire Kamar had awakened in her.
They'd been hanging out and flirting for the last couple of weeks and the alcohol had put to sleep the rational side of her, setting her carefree side loose.
Last night, the relationship had gotten much more personal than she'd ever wanted it to so quickly. But, she couldn't bring herself to feel the guilt she thought she ought to feel. She'd reveled in Kamar's lovemaking – and quite frankly couldn't wait to experience more of it.
"Maybe I'm still in some kind of emotional shock over Jason," she thought.
It had been a tough breakup and even though it had been just over a year, it still affected her if she gave it too much thought.
"You love too hard baby," her mom had said. "That kind of loving ain't good for no one's soul, especially one as sensitive as yours."
And this was why Karen had given herself a break from all things "men" after Jason. She felt raw, exposed and weak. She'd cried in her mother's arms like a newborn baby many nights after Jason left.
Her mother had insisted that she see a therapist when she started losing weight and was unable to sleep.
Slowly, she'd started to put her life back together and rejoin the world of the living. One night, after being dragged by her best friend Angelika to "Salsa Night" at a local club, she'd met Kamar.
The ban on all things "men" was over the minute she laid eyes on him.
****************
After her last relationship ended in heartbreak, Karen had taken a year's sabbatical from dating and reassessed her priorities.
Her professional life was budding, but she was lonely. So she decided to focus on what she could control – her business – and not wait for a committed relationship to blossom before she had some fun.
Meeting Kamar seemed to solidify that she'd made the right decision. They hit it off immediately and she headed straight down the 'bad girl' path, forging a physical connection before thought was given to any type of emotional bond.
Could her bad girl behavior lead to a lasting relationship?
Could the chemistry they shared in bed translate into a successful relationship out of bed?
Or, was she so "Trapped by Desire" that she was setting herself up for heartbreak all over again?
