The story of three young men from three different West-African countries, two of whom though had previously lived in the U.S.A. and England found themselves back to a life of poverty in West-Africa. In their determination to get back to their former stations in first world countries of the world, Teacher and Obilenzo brave the Sahara desert not minding the risks involved. Accompanied by Adamou an ex-coup plotter in one of the West-African countries who escaped from prison and was on the run for his dear life.
The author in his characteristic witty style weaves the story around Teacher, a some what teacher of life's philosophies. Philosophies, most of which he learned from the 'school of hard knocks'. These he shares with his colleagues as they go on the risky and adventurous trip. Obilenzo on the other hand was an ex-drug trafficker and 'crack' peddler who was deported from the U.S. now trying to tow a fresh line spiritually. He has this mysterious habit of hearing two mysterious voices dialogue within him. Teaching him some deep truths about life sometimes in a question and answer format.
