Most rural areas are centres of idolatry, ancestor worship, masquerades, all kinds of cults, witchcraft, poverty, spiritual darkness, disease, illiteracy, high mortality rate, etc.

So many ministers of the gospel have tried unsuccessfully to reach rural areas and could not understand why they failed. They had all the anointing, the financial support, all that it takes and yet they failed. Many people have stories of woe and failure arising from their experiences in rural areas. They went to the rural areas without having any understanding of the people and the forces at work there.

If you want to be effective in reaching rural people, you must ask God to give you a deep understanding of the kind of people involved – you need to know them spiritually. God will reveal to you the potentials of these villages – how to reach them, how to teach/train them – how to build them up – how to have a great, tremendous ministry amongst them.

Why is it important to have this deep, spiritual understanding of rural people? It is because if you look at them from outward circumstances, you are likely to see poverty, failure, impossibilities, little growth, small churches, etc. The success of any man in rural work really depends on if the person involved has EYES TO SEE (FROM GOD’ S VIEW POINT).

As God looks down from heaven, he hears lots of deep groaning from the rural places of the earth. You see, these places are like mighty prisons where people are trapped in poverty, hardship, disease, ignorance, superstition, idolatry, Islam, Mariolatry, witchcraft, etc. Villagers are as it were appointed unto death. God wants them to be loosed from that appointment so they might declare the name of the Lord and serve Him.

God has NOT called the Church to go into the world and develop the rural areas. There is no scripture for that. There are other organizations raised by God like United Nations and governments to handle the physical development of communities. Our work is to give the rural people the light of Christ. Rural people are heathen because of the multiplicity of the idols that they worship.
