Grace James (1864 – 1930) was an English writer of children's literature and a Japanese folklorist. Her Japanese Fairy Tales (1910) is a collection of stories from the Japanese folklore. It also has two other editions, named Green Willow and Other Japanese Fairy tales and The Moon Maiden and Other Japanese Fairy Tales. The Wind in the Pine Tree is a Japanese fairy tale, collected by Grace James. So long ago that the crane cannot remember it, and the tortoise knows it only by hearsay from his great-grandmother, the heavenly deity descended, looking for good land to plant a pine tree. The soil was fertile, it satisfied the deity, and the tree grew strong and blooming. No living thing could help admiring its beauty, all of them were attracted to it, spirits, animals, and human beings…
