My life is not better for what Dad did,

Dad’s life is certainly not better,

but I never told my dad any of that.

He’d told me that healing my inner demons was all that he would accept as thanks.

Years later, I’m still trying to work on that.

I’m still trying to not be that girl consumed with guilt and disgust.

I can’t torture myself with blame for the rest of my life.

I was terrified I'd scare Maddie off.

I've never been patient.

Maddie taught me patience,

she needed patience to heal from seven years of built up trauma.

I was an only child that got what he wanted,

when he wanted it.

My parents never made me beg for anything.

Maddie made me secretly beg for many things.
