William Ralston Shedden-Ralston was an English writer and linguist, mostly known as an expert on Russian life and popularizer of Russian folklore and literature. “The Two Friends” is a legend, entered in “Russian Fairy Tales, A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folklore”. The story is about two young men, who are the great friends. And they make the mutual agreement. Whichever of the two who will marry first should to invite his comrade to wedding. And there is no difference whether he is alive or dead. About a year after this one of the young men feels ill and dies. A few months later his comrade intends to get married. At the day of ceremony he remembers about given word… We present you the literature works of the author, whose creature had made Russian folk narratives becoming an integral part of European children’s literature and culture.
