Mankind is no longer at the top of the food chain.

The Sixth Extinction is an apocalyptic tale about a pandemic that sweeps the globe, decimating the human race, leaving humanity struggling to survive. Within three weeks, everything has changed. Social structure has collapsed as the government locks itself away with a select portion of its vast army in deep bunkers, leaving the civilians to their own fate and the infected that stalk the streets.

Can it get any worse for Smokie and her group? What the survivor’s first thought was a floating haven has turned out to be anything but. First, they are rammed by a ship and then attacked by another, and just when they manage to escape it turns out there has been an infected man onboard the whole time, and he’s kidnapped Naomi. Not to mention a new strain of the virus which has mutated the birds into a new delivery system, with horrific results – a new strain of creatures is born, but unlike their previous, mindless cousins, this new strain is intelligent.

When the King brothers with Alex and Mollee finally assume they have the stranger cornered; things go from bad to catastrophic in the blink of an eye. If they thought they had problems before, it all pales in comparison with their latest encounter.

At the same time as Troy is having a revelation, it looks like Frank might be having a breakdown, or is he simply coming to terms with the undeniable truth?

Meanwhile, below ground, hundreds of miles away, Bachman and the others are still running for their lives. The bulk of the creatures have been destroyed, but there is still enough of them around to cause no end of problems. They need to reach the weapon’s zone if they have any hope of surviving.

Also, Stu and Soozie’s fate goes from bad to worse when they unwittingly find survivors from the shipwrecked coastguard cutter. They now find themselves hostages to a madman.

And what is lurking in the belly of the cargo ship? Something that will not only spell doom for those onboard, but it may also be the final straw for the entire human race.
